Botox AND DYSPORT

If you are concerned about wrinkles or fine lines on your face, you may be a good candidate for Botox. 

Botox is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also avoid getting Botox if you have a history of muscle weakness in your face, drooping eyelids, or allergic reactions.  To be sure, always consult with a qualified physician before getting any cosmetic treatments done. Botox and Dysport injections vary depending on the area, muscle strength, and facial anatomy, amongst other factors. Our approach is to start low and go slow, meaning we begin on a low dosage to introduce the neuromodulator to your skin during your first few sessions. It can progress to higher dosages as needed to see the results. As an example, treating your forehead can range anywhere from five to 30 units or more. The short answer is no – not when you visit an experienced injector. Botox or Dysport injections feel similar to a mosquito bite. If you decide to get the treatment, you will only feel minimal discomfort. There is no need for analgesics or topical numbing prior to treatments as it is quick, painless, and tolerable. Some patients have a temporary feeling of stinging on some injection sites. Following the treatment, your skin can be slightly pink, which resolves in a matter of minutes.

It generally takes about 3-14 days before you can see the effects of Botox or Dysport treatment on your skin, with the best results achieved after 14 days. After 14 days, you can decide whether or not you want additional units or wait for it to wear off until your next treatment, approximately three to four months later.

Though Botox and Dysport is considered a toxin, it has numerous benefits for your body. When administered correctly, Botox or Dysport is safe to get injected into your body. The effects vary depending on how your skin reacts to the injection, your age, the frequency of treatments, the dose, and metabolism, amongst others. On average, Botox or Dysport lasts for 3 to 4 months. Some patients enjoy the positive results of the treatment for six months. Botox or Dysport, like other treatments, has its possible side effects on your body. Here are some of the common ones amongst others not mentioned. It can cause temporary bruising and swelling on the injection sites. If you bruise easily, ensure to follow the aftercare instructions following the treatment to avoid these effects. You may also feel headaches, forehead heaviness, and flu-like symptoms after the treatment.

• Please discontinue the following 3-5 days prior to treatment:

1. Aspirin
2. Alcohol
3. Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Aleve)
4. Ginger Ginseng
5. Ginkgo Biloba
6. Garlic
7. Green Tea
8. Vitamin E
9. Omega 3 Fatty Acids (Fish oil)

• If you are using prescription aspirin or blood thinners, do not discontinue use unless permitted by your physician.
• Due to potential for bruising, this treatment is not recommended if you have an important event within 2 weeks of injection.

• You may experience a mild headache or mild pain at the injection site. You may take Tylenol for headaches or discomfort, as long as you're not allergic to Tylenol.
• Avoid bending your waist down, lying down, and remain upright for at least 4 hours.
• Avoid irritating products (Retinols, Glycolic Acne Medications) for 24 hours.
• Avoid wearing makeup for the first 4 hours after your treatment.
• Avoid massaging or manipulating the injection site for 48 hours after injection.
• Avoid plucking eyebrows for the first 6 hours after your treatment.
• Avoid wearing constrictive eye masks and goggles for 24 hours after the treatment.
• Avoid strenuous exercise, yoga, & extreme sports for 1-2 days
• If your upper lip was treated, you may not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.
• Although rare, infection in the injected area is possible. Signs of infection may include redness, tenderness in the infected area and fever. Should you develop an infection, antibiotics may be necessary. Please contact us should you have any concerns.
• Bruising in the area injected is normal although rarely occurs, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several days.
• Schedule a 2 week follow-up appointment to assess results for subsequent treatments, particularly if you are a first-time client.
